New Temperature Station!

Last week Dennis Macarthur of Wood River Vineyards, Eric McLaughlin of the 8th St. Wine Co. and Kevin Pogue, a geology professor at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA stopped by to install a weather station in the Stowe Vineyard. The station takes a temperature reading every hour and will be installed for the entire 2008 growing season. Kevin and Eric installed about 25 of these stations in vineyards throughout the Snake River Valley. Kevin is currently working with a temperature station network in the Walla Walla area as well.

With the information that is gathered from the stations we will be able to see where the warm and cool spots are in the valley and future vineyard plantings can be made accordingly. We will also be able to make vineyard management adjustments based on an actual on site temperature station as opposed to making decisions based on temperature readings from the other side of the valley. This is very exciting research that Kevin is doing and we hope to keep you up to date on the information as it comes in.
